Origins
Wildforest is a 40 acre sanctuary for a regenerating forest of Douglas Fir, Redwood, Sugar Pine, Madrone and Tan Oak that was logged about 60 years ago.
We could be among the primary inhabitants to settle in this piece of wild... forest.
No doubt the native Pomo tribe traversed this place first.
We honor the indigenous peoples who have long held the land and ancestors who passed here, feeling humble in the fortune of our current habitation.
“wīld: (of an animal or plant) living or growing in the natural environment; not domesticated or cultivated
ˈfôrəst: A dense growth of trees, plants, and underbrush covering a large area”
Sanctuary in the early sense was “a church or other sacred place where a fugitive was immune, by the law of the medieval church, from arrest.”
People automatically sought refuge in such a place in times of trouble.
We observe the collective’s need for sanctuary in this world. We are learning to create such space in a way that is gentle for the forest and supportive of its more than human community.
“saNG(k)CHo͞oˌerē: a place of refuge or safety”
How do we learn to live this way?
By doing.
Why are we living this way?
How else should we live …
